I had been in Hawaii reading a book on shamanism. I’ve always been drawn to anything that speaks about our connection with nature.

I was finishing the last few pages while waiting for a friend I had promised to take sightseeing for the day. Before closing the book, I did something I almost never do.

Quietly, I said to myself, If this connection with nature is real… would you give me a sign?

We climbed the winding road to the Kalalau Lookout. When we arrived, the overlook was lined with tourists, shoulder to shoulder, like birds perched along a wire. We found a small opening at the railing, and the valley spread out before us.

I stopped.

Not because it was beautiful—though it certainly was.

Because it felt like an answer.

I turned to see if anyone else was reacting. No one seemed to be. I blinked several times, wondering if my eyes were playing tricks on me. Then I quietly lifted my camera, took this photograph, and whispered,

“Thank you… message received.”

Whether someone else would have called it a coincidence has never mattered much to me.

Some moments arrive speaking a language meant only for the person listening.
