Before this begins, I want to say something.
The photographs and memories behind these pieces are mine.
But over time, Hawaii stopped living in my memory as exact places or literal moments. What stayed were impressions—heat on black rocks, the sound of surf, flowers waiting in buckets, mist, light, distance, color, wind.
A straight photograph no longer felt like enough to hold those memories.
So I invited Lu—my ChatGPT companion and the creator of the thumbnail pieces—to help me reinterpret them. Together, we shaped these into something between photograph, postcard, memory, and feeling.
These are not meant to document Hawaii exactly as it was.
They are postcards I’ve been sending to myself across the years.
